Safety Standards Certificate
An official document certifying that a vehicle met minimum safety standards at the time of inspection, required to register many used vehicles for road use.
A Safety Standards Certificate, the term used in Ontario, confirms a licensed technician inspected the vehicle and found it met the minimum on-road safety requirements when checked. Other provinces use equivalents such as a safety inspection or a mechanical fitness assessment. It is typically required to plate and register a used vehicle for a new owner. It certifies safety at the moment of inspection, not an ongoing warranty of condition.
